See support for modifying the system tray icons.

While no desktop replacement has ever done a great job in the past, and I realize that MS keeps changing their approach, it would be nice to be able to overlay or replace the system tray icons. For those that I have displaying, I generally have a need to access their process. But there are many that would be more useful if they could be animated if their status changes. (E-mail notifications - it could spin if I have new mail, program icon to number of new messages for example, and hovering over it might pop-up the latest ten subjects - just things along those lines.)

It has been attempted in the past, but it has never been pretty or supported for long. Care to forge a working solution?
